Place-based, sustainable solutions in harmony with the land, water, and Ccotataki’s communal vision for maintaining their traditional life.
“We can dream of having alpacas again and recovering our traditional weavings, we can dream of having and building greenhouses and feeding ourselves better, we can dream of having programs to improve the health of children and women, we can dream of having economic development projects and receive visitors, but without water none of this is possible.”
Waters of Ccotataki is a grassroots, community-led collaboration to create permanent sources of water on Ccotataki’s land. A consistent source of water will provide a stable foundation for the community to continue living as their ancestors lived - closely connected with the land producing healthy and nourishing food. Our project also seeks to stop migration to cities by empowering the young people to support themselves and their families while working in their ancestral lands of Ccotataki.
Our Beginning
Waters of Ccotataki was borne out of a friendship between indigenous teacher Arkan Lushwala, his wife Marilyn, and Ccotataki community members.
