Who We Are
The community of Ccotataki is located in the district of Pisaq, province of Calca, in the Cusco region of Peru. Of the twelve communities in the district, Ccotataki is one of two communities declared to be in extreme poverty due to its elevation of 4,000 meters, the lack of development of its water sources, and the fact that its needs and requests have been ignored by the governments for many decades. Ccotataki is a Quechua-speaking community made up of about sixty families. Currently the community has a majority of children and elderly and a minority of young adults, who have gone to the cities looking for work.
The origins of this community go back to the time of the Incas. The Ccotataki have within their culture an inheritance of the dignity, wisdom, and beauty of the Inca past. Like all other communities of the Andean world, the community has been affected by poverty, abuse, and abandonment since the time of conquest nearly five hundred years ago.
